GREAT APE PORTAL

UNEP-WCMC collaborates with many organisations in the provision of biodiversity related information to a wide range of decisions makers.

We are currently (February 2009) working with a number of organisations to develop an on-line Great Ape Portal to support the conservation of Great Apes. The portal will include information on great ape distribution, data on threats (e.g. logging concessions, mining areas), and data on current conservation activities (e.g. location of research sites). The prototype portal, will be accessible from the UNEP-WCMC website by July 2009.

Organisations currently involved in development of the portal include: the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group section on Great Apes; the Max-Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, The Jane Goodall Institute; the Arcus Foundation and ESRI.

Please contact us if you would like to develop a proposal to submit to the EC to continue this work.

We are interested in hearing from all Great Ape range States and people involved in Great Ape related work outside the range States.
